INTELECTUAL OUTPUT 1

O1.A1. Profiling the target groups – interviews

At least 20 interviews will be implemented per country (Sweden, Greece, Belgium and Spain); 5 patients from hospitals or associations, 5 informal carers, and 10 health professionals.

Before the interviews, a protocol will be drafted to ensure that the ethical issues are guaranteed. All the data will be sent to FSP-CEU in the requested format. The final document will be the basis to develop the GOODRENAL platform

O1.A2. GOODRENAL Platform development

One reference expert per area will transmit the information to the engineer (UPV) responsible for the development of the Multimodal virtual health platform. The platform will provide

assessment and individualised treatment per each area (function, nutritional status, psychological wellbeing and cognitive function).

The platform will basically consist of 3 fundamental systems: i) SYSTEM 1: “VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS”, VE will be offered to the patient as if it were a game, indicating, with clarity

and precision, what he should do, how he should do it, ii) SYSTEM 2: “INTERACTION PATIENT-VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS” it will define the most useful devices, considering the

several options that there is at present in the virtual reality world and iii)SYSTEM 3: “THERAPIST APPLICATION”. The proposed system will allow the therapist to select and customize

the various Virtual Environments that the patient will have to perform.

O1.A3. Platform content development

According to their expertise and the interviews developed in the first activity, the reference experts will develop the content to be included in the platform: and then KI will be

responsible for putting together all the information in a single document. This document will be a report on the GOODRENAL virtual health platform content in English.

O1.A4. Translation of the content and the platform

Each partner will be responsible to translate the platform and the corresponding content into their national language (Swedish, Greek, Dutch, Spanish). Then the UPV will include the

different languages in the platform, (IO1. D1).

O1.A5. Piloting the virtual health platform

Before the pilot there will be a learning activity to teach participants about the virtual platform and the corresponding content of the platform

After that, a pilot study in the partners’ countries will test the usability of the platform and its impact on patients’ health. It will be developed along 3-months in HM, SUS and hospital

associated AUTH and KULeuven during the hemodialysis sessions. The pilot study will include a small sample per center (20 participants). A common methodology to collect feedback

to improve the platform will be designed by FSP-CEU and followed by all partners involved in the testing phase.

O1.A6. Platform improvement and translation

The GOODRENAL platform will be improved according to: i) the results obtained in the piloting phases and ii) the opinion of the participants and researchers in the piloting phase.

O2.A1. Guidelines to promote multimodal renal treatment for health professionals

According to partners expertise and the report on the GOODRENAL virtual health platform content from three perspectives: exercise, nutrition and psychological wellbeing that will be

in progress, partners will design the guidelines to promote multimodal treatment (exercise-nutrition-psychological wellbeing) addressed to health professionals. The guidelines will be

designed to be used according to the resources that the professionals have, with or without the platform developed in IO1. Hospital de Manises will lead the design and all partners will

collaborate in the content creation. The final version will be agreed in an online webinar in M15.

Once the guideline will be agreed, partners will design the course to empower ambassadors from health care professionals working at the hemodialysis unit (renal nurses,

nephrologists, others) in the multimodal treatment (M16-M17). Each partner (clinical centers) will select 3 renal nurses and 2 nephrologists as ambassadors. Ambassadors will

represent age group and gender of the staff of each dialysis unit. Thus two women and one man from the renal nursing staff will be selected, two of them with more than ten years

experience in the field of renal nursing, and one of them with less than three years experience. A man and a woman will be selected among nephrologists, the ones with longer

experience as nephrologists in the unit.

The centers will translate this participation into benefits such as decreased clinical tasks while attending and/or implementing courses and curriculum merits. Then, each partner

located at Hospital de Manises, Skåne University Hospital and hospital associated to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven will organize the course

using the guidelines designed and agreed. At this stage, the content of the multimodal virtual health platform will be ready; so, it can be also used during the course.

Thus, at each partner hospital, renal nurses and nephrologists will be encouraged to act as ambassadors, so as other health professionals at the hemodialysis units. Each partner

institution will suggest mechanisms to increase motivation of ambassadors (work leaves, job aim achievement, etc.).

O2.A2. Pilot peer to peer training for renal nurses, nephrologist and other health professionals working at the hemodialysis unit

Selected ambassadors (renal nurses and nephrologists) will implement peer to peer courses at partners hospitals (Hospital de Manises, Skåne University Hospital and hospital

associated to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven). Each partner hospital will train around 20 renal nurses and 8 nephorologists. The contents will be

based on the training courses that they received as ambassadors (guidelines and multimodal treatment). Ambassadors will adapt course’s contents according to their own criteria

considering barriers and needs of the health care professionals at the haemodialysis unit. The aim would be to educate peers on multimodal treatment, and on how to overcome

barriers to multimodal treatment implementation in the clinical routine.

Each hospital partner will arrange time availability of the health professionals working at their hospitals during the working time to increase attendance.

O2.A3.– Guidelines improvement

Feasibility, acceptance and adherence for each target group will be analyzed through questionnaires and attendance rates.

Ambassadors and partner institutions will meet and analyze weak and strong points of the courses with in-person national meetings and with international virtual meetings.

A consensus will be achieved regarding guidelines contents before publishing and formatting at the website.

O3.A1.– Guidelines to promote multimodal renal treatment for patients and non-formal carers

According to partners expertise and the report on the GOODRENAL virtual health platform content from three perspectives: exercise, nutrition and psychological wellbeing that will be

finished, partners will design the guidelines to promote multimodal treatment (exercise-nutrition-psychological wellbeing) addressed to patients and their caregivers. The guidelines will

be designed to be used according to the resources that the end-users have, with or without the platform developed in IO1. Katholieke Universiteit Leuven will lead the design and all

partners will collaborate in the content creation. The final version will be agreed in an online webinar in M28.

Once agreed, partners will design the course to empower self-selected ambassadors from two different target populations (patients and carers) in the multimodal treatment (29-30) Patients’ associations will be contacted to know the most active members that could act as ambassadors. Additionally, each hospital will select two patients per shift that could be a

reference for their peers. Each partner is expected to select around 15 patients, distributed per hemodialysis shift, and 7 carers as ambassadors. Then, each partner located at

Hospital de Manises,Skåne University Hospital and hospital associated to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven will organize the course using the

guidelines designed and agreed. At this stage, the content of the multimodal virtual health platform (D.1.Report on the GOODRENAL virtual health platform contents from three

perspectives, exercise, nutrition and psychology – Spanish, Swedish, Greek, Dutch) will be ready and translated; so it can be also used during the course.

Thus, at each partner hospital, patients and carers will be encouraged to act as ambassadors. Each partner institution will suggest mechanisms to increase motivation of ambassadors.

O3.A2.– Pilot peer to peer courses for patients and non-formal carers

Selected ambassadors (patients and non-formal carers) will implement peer to peer courses at locations close to the partners hospitals (Hospital de Manises, Skåne University

Hospital and hospital associated to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) and/or at associations settings to achieve higher attendance rates. Patients’

associations will be contacted to know the most active members that could act as ambassadors.

The contents will be based on the training courses that they received as ambassadors. Ambassadors will adapt course’s contents according to their own criteria considering barriers

and needs of the target population. The aim would be to educate adults on multimodal treatment, and on how to overcome barriers to multimodal treatment.

O3.A3.– Guidelines improvement

Feasibility, acceptance and adherence for each target group will be analyzed through questionnaires and attendance rates.

Ambassadors and partner institutions will meet and analyze weak and strong points of the courses.

A consensus will be achieved regarding course contents before publishing and formatting at the website.
